Clinical Information

Another common copy number change reported in gliomas, deletion of chromosome 10, leads to loss of PTEN in nearly 80% of GBMs. Mutations in PTEN are also found in 31-44% of GBM. Previous research on prognostic significance of PTEN alterations has provided conflicting results; however, a recent meta-analysis found PTEN changes associated with poor survival. Interestingly, when patients were sub-grouped the finding only remained significant in American patients (Oncotargets and Therapy (2016) 9: 3485-3492).

Gene sequencing and targeted mutation testing and copy number analysis can serve as a useful diagnostic and potentially prognostic tool for the analysis of affected tissues or tumors. The detection of copy number variants or specific gene mutations may enhance treatment decisions.

Specimen Requirements

Analysis can be performed on fresh or frozen tissue samples as well as formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples.

Transport Instructions

The specimen should be kept at the appropriate temperature and delivered via overnight shipping.

Unexpected. If there is a term that sums up life it could very well be: unexpected. Life is full of unexpected moments. Some of these moments can be full of unexpected blessings while others may be full of unexpected obstacles. However, sometimes the unexpected can be both an obstacle and blessing at the same time; you just need someone to help you see both sides. The Greenwood Genetic Center is a place that helps shed some light on the...
