Clinical Information

Another common copy number change reported in gliomas, deletion of chromosome 10, leads to loss of PTEN in nearly 80% of GBMs. Mutations in PTEN are also found in 31-44% of GBM. Previous research on prognostic significance of PTEN alterations has provided conflicting results; however, a recent meta-analysis found PTEN changes associated with poor survival. Interestingly, when patients were sub-grouped the finding only remained significant in American patients (Oncotargets and Therapy (2016) 9: 3485-3492).

Gene sequencing and targeted mutation testing and copy number analysis can serve as a useful diagnostic and potentially prognostic tool for the analysis of affected tissues or tumors. The detection of copy number variants or specific gene mutations may enhance treatment decisions.

Specimen Requirements

Analysis can be performed on fresh or frozen tissue samples as well as formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples.

Transport Instructions

The specimen should be kept at the appropriate temperature and delivered via overnight shipping.

Meet the Shenal Family

Our daughter, Ryleigh, was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal deletion shortly after she was born in 2010. Since we received her diagnosis, the Greenwood Genetic Center has become part of our family. They made certain that we did not feel alone, and they continue to provide ongoing, compassionate care for our child. The impact they have had on our family and others across the globe everyday is immeasurable. We can't imagine walking this journey without their...
