Molecular Genetic Assistant

The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory at the Greenwood Genetic Center has an opening for a Molecular Genetic Assistant. The Molecular Genetic Assistant will perform assigned tasks to aid in the molecular diagnosis of hereditary conditions under the direct supervision of a clinical molecular geneticist or assigned supervisor. The molecular genetic assistant performs non-bench related assigned tasks in the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory.

Essential Duties

  • Reviews and coordinates requisition forms and other test-related documentation throughout the testing process
  • Provides assistance in case management, including:
    • Data entry of demographic and clinical information
    • Management of sample status throughout the testing process
    • Tracking of sample turnaround times
    • Providing assistance with the reporting process
  • Responsible for coordinating consistent test and patient information across multiple databases, such as a laboratory information management system (LIMS), internal test tracking system, and various spreadsheets
  • Performs literature searches; maintains and organizes the electronic library of articles saved on servers
  • Provides client/customer service such as follow-up phone calls to referring providers to request additional information or repeat specimens
  • Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • BS degree (preference for biology, genetics, medical experience)
  • Professional verbal and written communication
  • Experienced in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Critical thinking
