Our Research and Testing

Our team takes the time to work with you to better understand the underlying cause of your child's birth defect while also researching the genetic link. We offer a full diagnostic laboratory for testing, educational programs and resources to further your path towards treatment. We're committed to developing both preventative and curative therapies for each one of our patients.

A few areas of specific focus within our offices include:

Split Hand and Foot Syndrome

Split Hand/Split Foot Malformation is a rare condition characterized by a partial or a full absence of fingers or toes. Many patients who have this will also have clefts in the feet or hands. This condition is often recognizable by webbing located between the toes or the fingers, creating a claw-like appearance. It's caused by an autosomal dominant trait in some families. It can also occur randomly.

Birth Defects Prevention Program

Neural tube defects (NTDs) are abnormalities of the developing brain and spine. These defects occur very early in pregnancy, often before the mother realizes she’s pregnant. To help prevent NTDs, Greenwood Genetic Center and its partners formed the SC Birth Defects Prevention Program. GGC's program has become one of the nation's leading examples of NTD prevention.

Calls were made to Greenwood Genetic Center to confirm her diagnosis...
